Research Topic

Design and Control of Chemical Processes

Current research areas include:

1. Various methods to separate azeotropes or close boiling mixtures including pressure-swing distillation, extractive distillation, heterogeneous azeotropic distillation, hybrid extraction/distillation process, hybrid pervaporation/distillation process and batch distillation, etc.
2. Reactive distillation processes including three carbonate processes, butyl levulinate process, RD with mix-alcohol feed, cyclohexanol, triacetin processes, etc.
3. Various coal gasification polygen processes
4. Various energy-related and biorenewables-based processes, e.g. methylal, trioxane, POMDME, and various glycerol utilization processes.

5. Various heat integration processes, e.g. dividing wall and multi-effect
6. Cryogenic air separation process
