Research Topic

Nanosized Electronic and Electro-Optical Materials

The microstructure, chemical composition, size, and crystal structure of materials play important roles in influencing the performance of nano-electronic and electro-optical compounds. For precisely controlling the characteristics of materials, new processing methods including the sol-gel, and hydrothermal processes are developed for preparing nanosized materials with superior reaction activity and properties. The research concerning the preparation of phosphors for LED and flat panel dispalys, electro-optical semiconductors, lithium secondary batteries materials, dielectric ceramics, and piezoelectric ceramics is underway.



 

Thin-Film Processing of Electronic and Electro-Optical Ceramics

For the development of VLSI industry, new technology is developing for depositing ferroelectric thin films on silicon wafers to prepare new non-volatile ferroelectric random access memories (FeRAM). To shed light on developing the next-generation electro-optical industry, the development of new electro-optical thin-film devices is also carried out.



 

Characterization of Electronic and Electro-Optical Properties

For the application in electronic devices, the dielectric, piezoelectric properties and conductivity of synthesized nanosized particles and thin-films are characterized. The impedance analysis is performed to determine the variation of capacitance and resistivity in grain and grain boundary. New mathematical models are proposed to predict and simulate the dielectric properties in bi-phasic materials. Furthermore, an in-situ analysis of electric properties is undertaken to control the reaction conditions of particles. For the development of electronic-optical and micro-electronic appliances, the design of new nano-devices is also in process.
