Congratulations to Professor Shih-Yow Huang for receiving the 2009 Asia Pacific Biochemical Engineering Conference Award

Professor Huang was among the nine recipients of the Asia Pacific Biochemical Engineering Conference Award (APBioChEC Award), presented in the name of the organizing committee of APBioChEC’09. Professor Huang is one of the leading pioneers in applying engineering principles to fermentation, through education, research and consulting, and helped establishing the foundation of a vibrant biotechnology industry in Taiwan today. He Wrote two important books on Biochemical Engineering, both of them were adopted as the text books by many schools in Taiwan. He was awarded many honors, including the Excellent Paper award by Institute of Engineers, and Distinguished Research Scholar in 1990 by National Science Council of Taiwan. He served on the editorial board of Journal of Bioscience and Bioengineering (Society for Biotechnology, Japan), 1993-2005, and of J. Chin. Inst.Engrs., 1995-2004. He also exerted a very significant contribution to the biochemical engineering Asian-Pacific Biochemical Engineering Conference 2009 community in Asia-Pacific area, participating and serving as a member of International Advisory Committee of past APBioChECs.

The qualification of APBioChEC Award is based on either one or all of the following criteria:

1. Distinguished contributions to the Asia Pacific biochemical engineering community through the education, research, and international collaboration in the field of biochemical engineering.

2. Distinguished contributions to the organization of past APBioChECs.
